Peter and Vicki McKernan commenced business, of which Anchorage Houseboats is now a division, when they moved to the Eildon township in 1985. The business initially grew by supplying and installing electrical componentry on houseboats. Their work on houseboats has made their name synonymous with a huge majority of houseboats on Lake Eildon. In recent years, the manufacture of new houseboats has met with resounding success. Ivor Bumbers joined the team in 2005 to focus on the "pre-loved" houseboat market. He has over 35 years experience on Lake Eildon, and with his family, were houseboat owners for 8 years from 1986-1994; shop traders in Eildon for 12 years - auto & marine spares from 1992-2004, adding the bait-n-tackle from 1997-2004; owned and operated Eildon Lake Charters from its beginning in 1998 to its sale in 2005. He wrote and published the book "Lake Eildon A Record Low"; was involved as a foundation committee person and member of Eildon Action from its inception in 1995 until today and was presented with an Australia Day Achievement Award in 2000. He and his family have lived in Eildon since 1992

After 17 yrs of success in operating his own family business in the area of electronics and service, Jorge Alvarez, a qualified electronic technician and director of Duralum Trailers Pty Ltd sold the business to explore his long life passion for boats.
Awesome American Boats was born in 2005 as Jorge traveled to the bayside cities of USA to hand pick only the very best boats to import to Australia. This gave Jorge the opportunity to share his boating & fishing adventures with the many happy customers throughout the years. While importing cabin cruisers, we found that our imported trailers that came with the boats where of much interest to our customers, so much so that some of the boats sold purely due to the customer’s keen interest in the trailer. You could say the trailers sold the boats for us! Soon enough we started gaining orders for aluminium trailers, although we still take orders for various American boat brands, which we import via our various networks and resources.
In 2006 Duralum was formed, as we discovered an opportunity to supply highly durable aluminium boat trailers to the Australian market. Since all trailers manufactured in Australia are made of heavy galvanized steel that eventually rust away, the benefits of light weight, rust resistant aluminium trailers was clearly evident! With this in mind, Jorge headed to American to investigate the competitive market of marine trailers, and after several months of research, meeting with various manufacturers and conversing with trailer owners themselves, we can to the conclusion that Rocket International Inc produces the highest quality aluminium trailers in comparison to other manufacturers. Rolco and Kincaid have been synonymous with ski boats in Australia for the past 60 years. Kincaid Marine took over Rolco Marine Conversions in 1993 and renamed the business to what we all know it today as “Kincaid Marine Rolco”.
With over 20 years experience as a Qualified Mechanic, very hands on in the industry and a passion for ski boats and race boats. Who better to take over the well known business than Lloyd Brewer Engines in 2000.
Manufacturing just about every piece of hardware for inboard ski boats from our 10,000 square foot factory and with more new engines being processed through the business than reconditioned, we are now importing engines and then marinizing them for ski boats.

At the foundry we make castings from either a sand mould or die and produce our parts out of the highest grade aluminium, bronze or steel depending on the part.
Milling a skeg with a jig, to ensure that every part is machined to exact tolerance.
Milling the exhaust manifold perfectly flat to ensure perfect gasket seal.
Milling a keyway in a stainless steel prop shaft. This is to couple the engine or transmission to the prop shaft. We can even offer this service while you wait.
We have just expanded and built a purpose built area for in house metal polishing to improve turn around time.
Marinizing engines in preparation to running them. Every engine gets thoroughly run and tuned before being packaged and sent to the customer.
In the near future we are campaigning a ski race boat in the coming race season that will be powered by a 6.0 Litre GEN 3 Chevrolet engine.
We still even supply the old 6 cylinder Holden replacement parts and the like, to help customers keep their favourite old boat going, right through to latest and greatest GEN 3 Chevrolet parts and engines.

The HP 290/350 is GM Performance Parts' value leading crate engine, with 290 horsepower @ 5100 RPM, and 326 ft-lbs of torque @ 3750 RPM on 87 octane fuel. The HP 290 horsepower will provide great long term durability with its 4-bolt mains, used from 1955 through late 1980. |
SPY BOATS is the joint venture between leading ski boat specialist Peter Webb’s Performance Marine, and multi-award winning boat builder, Whittley Marine Group.
The contemporary Australian-designed and built SPY BOATS was launched in July 2007. Many of the major boat manufacturers simply increase the size of the motor to increase performance. This may have a detrimental effect on the overall handling due to inappropriate weight distribution. The weight increase certainly means higher fuel usage, both on the water and whilst towing.
Inevitably, the cost of boating, along with our green house gases, has gone through the roof. Not good. Stingray Boats have taken a different approach. The patented Z-plane hull increases efficiency by up to 30% allowing smaller lighter engines to perform the same tasks as much heavier units.

The Southern 80 has evolved over many years to become the world class event it is today.
Initially Echuca hosted a marathon event held over 522 miles in 1964.
In 1965 it was divided into two events; the Murray Ski Marathon over 500 miles as well as a shorter 100 mile race.
That year the race even attracted two air boats which could power through shallow water at up to 60mph and on flat land for short distances.
In 1974 the Moama Water Sports Club was formed. By 1975 the event was named the Southern 80 Ski Trial, was held in February for the first time and 47 teams were entered.
The even was well established by 1981 when 103 teams took part with one of the competing teams consisting of six year old Aaron Johnson and eleven year old Brett Sands. The Memorial trophy for the outright winner is presented in memory of Aaron's father Leigh.
Brett Sands has since represented Australia on many occasions winning gold at the World Barefoot titles in 1996 and runs a barefoot school just out of Moama.
By 1983 the event was getting pretty serious with the honours going to $50,000 "Aquaholic" which was beaten the following year by a mere .06/sec by stoic campaigner the now lat Ted Hurley.
The 35 minute barrier was broken by Island Cooler in '89 and again in driving rain in 1990.
The 34 minute barrier was smashed in 1992 by Thundernuts towing 17 year olds Brett Dominguez and Steve Morley.
Cairns boat Gotta Be Crazy travelled 3300kms to score a historic double by being the first boat to win the Bakers Blitz and the Southern 80 in 1993.
God's Gift shot to glory when it won the Blitz and broke the record in 1995 only to see the record broken again by Gotta be Crazy in 1996 with a time of 32:33.
Not to be outdone, the God's Gift team snared the elusive double in 1998, with an average speed of 168.35kmh, this time taking out the Blitz with a time of 7:08 and smashing the record for the Southern 80 with a time of 32:02 to take out not only the Leigh Johnson Memorial Trophy but also the jackpotted American Hotel record breakers cheque again, this time for $3000.
Although the Southern 80 has grown bigger and faster it is still a family affair with classes for everyone from the under 10 Tadpoles to the over 40 Veterans.
The Southern 80 has evolved to become one of the world's greatest ski races ... and it's a lot of fun.
